The Virtual Seminar on Resolution of Tax Disputes was held on 15 October 2021. Representatives from BRITACOM Council Member Tax Administrations, Observers, members of the Advisory Board, and business attended the meeting. All participants and speakers contributed to this informative and engaging event.
Tax disputes inevitably occur as the frequency of transactions increases. Considering the wide range of geographic regions of BRI jurisdictions, with divergent domestic tax laws, administrative systems, tax treaty networks and cultural backgrounds, an in-depth analysis on tax disputes which occur therein and relevant recommendations on expediting tax dispute resolution is of great value for taxpayers and tax authorities.
At the seminar, Mr. Mekar Satria Utama from Directorate General of Taxes, Ministry of Finance of Indonesia, Ms. Yong Sing Yuan from Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore, and Ms. Zhang Lin from State Taxation Administration of China shared their experience and views on how to solve the problem that tax policy enforced by the government may be implemented inconsistently in different regions. Mr. Mekar Satria Utama, Ms. Yong Sing Yuan and Ms. LEUNG To-shan from Inland Revenue Department, Hong Kong, China introduced the procedures of domestic tax dispute resolution. Mr. Ma Guang from State Taxation Administration of China, Ms. Yong Sing Yuan and Prof. Jinyan Li from Osgoode Hall Law School, York University introduced the mechanism of cross-border tax disputes resolution.
Participants were attentive at the conference and had extensive exchanges with speakers on key topics and issues.
The BRITACOM will organize more seminars to enhance the outcomes of the 2nd BRITACOF and facilitate communication among tax administrations of BRI jurisdictions to build a growth-friendly tax environment.
