Recently, International Tax Review (ITR) revealed the Global Tax 50 2021-22, which is an annual event since 2011, highlighting the most influential individuals, organizations, and geopolitical events in the tax world. The Belt and Road Initiative Tax Administration Cooperation Mechanism(BRITACOM) has been listed as one of the most influential organizations for the first time.

 

There are two criteria adopted for being included in the Global Tax 50. One is the level of influence the individual, organization, or event has had on tax affairs over the past year. The other is the likelihood that the individual, organization, or event will still be influential in the coming year. Based on these evaluation criteria, ITR found the 50 most influential cases, crises, individuals, information leaks, organizations, and policies in tax-related fields.

 

It is worth mentioning that BRITACOM is the only tax mechanism that enters the top 50. Since its establishment in 2019, the BRITACOM has developed rapidly. Focusing on taxation concerns of the Belt and Road Initiative(BRI) jurisdictions, various tasks of the BRITACOM have been carried out smoothly. We have successfully held two Belt and Road Initiative Tax Administration Cooperation Forum(BRITACOF) conferences and dozens of online seminars, raising worldwide attention. The Belt and Road Initiative Tax Administration Capacity Enhancement Group(BRITACEG) and Belt and Road Initiative Tax Academies(BRITA) have bolstered a series of training programs, attracting lots of tax officials from the BRI jurisdictions to participate. We have published four issues of the Belt and Road Initiative Tax Journal(BRITJ) and several special editions of BRITACOM Update, providing a platform for related parties and specialists of the BRITACOM to share their forward-looking insights on taxation issues. The official website has attracted extensive visits. As of March 2022, the number of website views has exceeded 100,000, with visitors from 140 jurisdictions. All these achievements have been made through the joint efforts and cooperation of all related parties. 

 

The article titled The rise of the Britacom points out that there is still intense competition in global trade, and BRITACOM has a crucial role to play in forging greater tax cooperation among BRI jurisdictions. It shows that the work of the BRITACOM has received strong support from the tax administrations of the BRI jurisdictions, and its achievements have been widely recognized. 

 

BRITACOM is young and it’s future is promising. We will continue to devote ourselves to promote mutually beneficial and win-win international cooperation to jointly build a growth-friendly tax environment with all the partners.
